| Comments: | Hi Mike I must say that your website is the best trucking read I have had for ages, I started reading straight off the monitor but decided this needs more time to get the best out of it - so I printed it off - feet up on the settee and thoroughly enjoyed it. You've certainly had a busy life and you had the forethought to take some photographs which most people don't do and regret it. I must admit my driving life was not as interesting as yours, I started off on tippers, Ford Traders in the mid '60s, drove D series tippers and a D1000 8 pot Cummins which was some truck. After a spell working inside I returned to quarry work with Tilcon at Ballidon driving first a S36 8wheeler then an S50 30t half cab. After a while I wanted to get onto artics so went driving for Mr Kipling Cakes driving Seddon 32/4s and some D series Fords, we also had Volvo F88s on hire. Stayed there for 14 years or so progressing from driver to traffic supervisor to shift manager over transport and warehousing, |

| Comments: | Just hazarding a guess: the first F10s were roadtested in 1977, with CM and MT reporting that you had to have the windows open to hear the engines. Our first F88, bought in 1980 from Ken Topham, a timber haulier, was ex Reeds and N reg, 1975, so I suspect F88s ran from early 70's to 1978. drop me an email: do I know you? don't be shy. Mike |
